Syllabus of B.Sc. (Chemistry)

Three Years (Six semester) Programme from 2016-17

Semester system course structure of B.Sc. Chemistry:

• The course work shall be divided into six semesters with three papers in each semester.

• Each paper in a semester will be of 80 marks out of which 60 marks for theory and 20 marks are allotted for internal assessment (written test/assignment/both)

• Each theory paper shall consists of Three Sections :

• Section A : 20% of total marks (12 marks; one question of 12 parts; multiple choice, one word/one sentence answer, fill in the blanks, true- false; all parts will be compulsory). 
• Section B : 40% of total marks (24 marks, one question of 06 parts; any 04 have to be attempted with short answer) and 
• Section C : 40% of total marks; (24 marks, 04 questions, any two have to be attempted with long answer).

• Practical in each semester will be of total 60 marks, out of which 15 marks are assigned for internal assessment (attendance, practical records etc.).

• Practical examination will be evaluated by both external and internal examiner.

• The duration of theory and practical examination shall be 03 hrs and 6 hrs, respectively.

Paper II : Organic Chemistry
Structure and bonding , Mechanism of organic reactions, Stereochemistry of organic compounds, Alkanes and cycloalkanes.

Paper III : Physical Chemistry
Gaseous state,  liquid State,  solid state , Colloidal state

II Semester Syllabus of B.Sc. Chemistry :  

Paper I : Inorganic Chemistry
Chemical bonding,  ionic  solids,  s- block elements,  p- block elements ,  metallurgical processes

Paper II : Organic Chemistry
Alkane, Cycloalkanes, dienes  and alkynes

Paper III : Physical Chemistry
Arenes  and aromaticity, Alkyl and Aryl halides, Chemical kinetics and catalysis, Thermodynamic I




III Semester Syllabus of B.Sc. Chemistry :  

Paper I : Inorganic Chemistry
Chemistry of transition elements (First  transition series), Chemistry of transition elements (second transition series),  acid and bases,  coordination chemistry I,  paint industry.

Paper II : Organic Chemistry
Electromagnetic Spectrum: Absorption Spectroscopy , Alcohols, Phenols, Ethers and Epoxides, Aldehydes and Ketones.

Paper III : Physical Chemistry
Thermodynamics II , Chemical Equilibrium, Phase Equilibrium.
